Read. Renew. Repeat! Summer Reading begins June 1!

The Evanston Public Library is excited to launch its children’s summer reading program, Read, Renew, Repeat, on June 1.

Throughout the summer, the library will host free programs and events throughout the Evanston community to encourage and support a love of reading, as well as a love of the environment. Our Read, Renew, Repeat theme encourages kids to learn more about endangered species and how they can play a role in conservation – right in their own backyards!

Children who visit the Evanston Public Library this summer, at our Main Library, Robert Crown Branch, or at a pop-up event in your neighborhood can sign up for the Summer Reading program to get an activity log – turn in your log with five of six activities completed and get a book to keep. Each time you bring back a completed log throughout the summer you’ll earn another prize from our treasure chest, plus be entered into a weekly prize drawing and our grand prize raffle at the end of the summer.

“This year’s Summer Reading program is perfect for kids who want to connect what they’re reading on the page with the world around them,” said EPL Early Learning and Literacy Manager Jan Bojda. “Our staff here is great at helping them explore their interests, learn more about the natural world, and discover great stories that spark a love of reading and learning.”

Programming for children this summer includes MakerKids, a STEM series for elementary-aged students on a different theme every month from bees to the moon; other drop-in STEM and craft activities; a Little Explorers series to encourage preschool-aged kids to explore the trees, plants and other outdoor things; our graphic novel book club; outdoor storytimes in the Robert Crown Reading Garden and at parks and beaches around Evanston; and much more!

Our librarians are also experts in connecting children to engaging stories that explain the natural world around them. Stop by the library for recommendations on the best new Blueberry Award-winning books on everything from this spring’s eclipse to the coming cicada invasion.

Sign up for Summer Reading beginning June 1 in person at the Main Library, Robert Crown Branch, or anywhere you see our tent at events around town, and register for and learn more about all our summer programs at epl.org/events
