Getting Started

Why do I have to register?

You can sign into the new catalog with your existing library barcode and password but a one-time registration is required to take advantage of all the expanded features. The registration process allows you to create an easy-to-remember username that you can use instead of your barcode to check your account.

How do I register for an account?
  • Go to the Log In page.
  • Enter your library barcode and pin/password and click the “Log In” button. If you haven’t registered before, you’ll be taken to the registration page.
  • First, you will be asked to verify your information.
  • If any information is incorrect, you can continue setting up your online account. Next time you’re at the Library, please visit one of our Customer Service Desks to have a staff member correct it.

Note: If the library does not have your birthdate on file with your library card, it will not be displayed on this page. You do not need to provide it if you so choose. However, if you decide not to provide your birth year and month, the system will assume you are a minor, and for safety reasons, some features will not be available to you.

  • Next, you will need to complete the account setup. This includes creating a username. Below is some information about creating a username:
  • Your username cannot be your barcode. Once you register, you will still be able to use your barcode to login if you’d like.
  • Users under the age of 13 are required to choose a color and animal to create their username. A number will be appended to the user’s choices to make the username unique.
  • After completing your account setup, you will be taken to a page titled “Welcome to your New Catalog!” where you can finish personalizing your account. Once you navigate away from this page some of these options will no longer be available to you.
  • Borrowing History: If you had your borrowing history enabled in our previous catalog and would like your previous borrowing history to be visible in your new account, you may choose to enable your borrowing history on this page. If you choose NOT to enable your borrowing history at this time, any borrowing history you had in our previous catalog will not be transferred over.
  • Import List Items: You can choose whether or not to do a one-time import of list items from the previous catalog. When you click the Import List Items button, all titles from those lists are fetched and added to the For Later Shelf. All imported items will be marked as private. The names of the original lists are not retained. The option to migrate list items will also be available for a limited time on your For Later Shelf.
  • Privacy Defaults: Here you can choose your privacy settings for your shelves. Your shelves are automatically set to private unless you choose to change them. You can update these settings at any time.
  • Additional Settings: Here you can set your preferred library location and your display defaults for community content. You can update these settings at any time.

Once you complete setting up your preferences, click Save

Do I have to provide my birthdate?
  • No, your birthdate is not required for registration. If the Library already has this information on file, your birth month and year will be shown on the registration page and saved to your account.
  • If the Library does not have your birth date on file, it will not be displayed on the registration page. You do not need to provide it if you so choose. However, if you decide not to provide your birth year and month, the system will assume you are a minor, and for safety reasons, some features will not be available to you.
Why do I need to create a username?

Our new catalog gives users the option to post public comments and create lists. Any comment, summary, or list that you post publicly will include your username.

Why can’t my child create their own username?

In the United States, children under 13 are not allowed to enter free-text on websites without parental approval (per COPPA: the Child Online Privacy Protection Act). Currently, the system does not have an option to ensure parental approval, so it uses the color/animal/number format for usernames. Once a child turns 13, they will be able to select a username and have other free-text options available.

Can I use the new catalog in the library’s app?

In addition to releasing a new library catalog, we are also releasing a new app which will feature the enhanced search features in the new catalog. We’re actively testing and collaborating with our developer, and we hope to launch it soon. While we don’t have a specific release date yet, we will send out an email update as soon as it’s ready for download on both platforms.
