On Sunday, December 8, the Evanston Public Library Robert Crown Branch (1801 Main St.) will be hosting Celebrate the National Crown Act! from 2 – 4 p.m. We are looking for hairstylists and fashion designers willing to show off their skills and creations! If you are a hairstylist interested in gracing our community with your skills or a fashion designer willing to show off your work, we would love for you to show up and participate in this event. Our fearless leader, Yeefah Thurman, will MC the event. If you are interested, you can also be one of the panelists who discuss their work, promote their business, and answer a few questions/provide helpful tips to attendees.
Hairstylists, designers and small business owners can register here.
This event will educate and address the hair discrimination against BIPOC, specifically Black people, define the importance of the National Crown Act, and will have the chance to sign the national petition pushing for policy change. With the assistance of professional hair care specialists, such as curly hair specialists, locticians, barbers, hair stylists, and skin care experts, participants get to learn from a panel of hair experts, experience a mini hair and fashion show to highlight the panelists’ creativity and expertise and receive a very brief hair consultation. Participants will also have the opportunity to share their own individual stories and/or hair care journeys. The event will also showcase Black-owned hair care products, and participants will be entered in a raffle to win some hair care freebies!
