Alphabet Art

As a special Local Art @ EPL winter exhibit, we are proud to feature the highly original series Alphabet Art by local painter and writer Marjorie Price.  From now through mid-January, her playful take on the letters of the alphabet will be on display on the 1st floor of EPL’s Main Branch near the Circulation desk.  Ranging from straightforward interpretations to the more abstract, her brilliant watercolors will spark the creative imagination in children of all ages.  You can preview Ms. Price’s work by visiting her website.

We are thrilled to introduce local photographer and business owner Martha Meyer as the next artist in our ongoing exhibition series Local Art @ EPL.  From now through the end of December, her radiant collection Grecian Spring, Italian Summer will be on display on the 2nd floor of EPL’s Main Branch.  Captured during a recent trip abroad, these exquisite photographs will warm your winter days while inviting you to slow down and appreciate the world’s beauty.  You can preview Ms. Meyer’s work by visiting her Fotogiardino website, and make sure to check back with Off the Shelf later in December for a featured interview with the artist herself.  Stay tuned.


An Interview with Lorrisa Julianus

Lorrisa Julianus is a local painter, actress, model, and the latest artist to be featured in our ongoing exhibition series Local Art @ EPL.  Her show – titled Embrace the Night – is currently on display on the 2nd floor of EPL’s Main Branch and uses classical chiaroscuro styling to give dimension and mystery to paintings inspired by “the duality of light and dark.”  You can catch the eclectic acrylics of Embrace the Night through the end of November, and after that, you can learn more about Ms. Julianus’ many artistic endeavors by visiting her website.  We recently spoke with Ms. Julianus via email about her artistic resume, Michelangelo and Caravaggio, inspiring audiobooks, and diverse and controversial art.

"Untitled - Fountain Square Arts Festival" by Warren Friedman

We are thrilled to announce a special summer treat for our ongoing exhibition series Local Art @ EPL.  Throughout August, we’re proudly featuring two dozen eye-catching images from the 2010 Faces of Evanston Photo Contest right here on the 2nd floor of EPL’s Main Branch.  Based on the common theme “Legacy,” the 26 featured photographs include Warren Friedman’s 1st place winner “Untitled – Fountain Square Arts Festival” (above) as well as prizewinners by Paulina Lopez, Jennifer Schuman, Jennifer Frankfurter, Anthony Icuzzi, and Barbara Seyfriend.  So make plans to catch Faces of Evanston as it wraps up its year-long, citywide tour and learn more about the annual Kiwanis-sponsored competition by visiting the websites for Faces of Evanston and the Kiwanis Club.
