Edward Ravine is a practicing psychotherapist, local painter, and the next featured artist in our ongoing exhibition series Local Art @ EPL. His show – Live Life Like a River – is currently on display on the 2nd floor of EPL’s Main Library where you can catch it through May 31st. Representing 15 years of artistic study under Leslie Hirshfield at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center, Ravine’s striking watercolors capture his quiet moments spent in the peace of wild places like Utah’s Big Cottonwood Canyon and Glencoe’s Skokie Lagoons. We recently spoke with him via email about how the Vietnam War influenced his art, Winslow Homer, his forthcoming book, and his need for time in the wilderness.

Lynn Torbeck is a retired Evanston statistician and the latest featured artist in our ongoing exhibition series Local Art @ EPL. His show – Art in Science – is currently on display on the 2nd floor of EPL’s Main Library where you can catch it through April 30th. Intrigued by Piet Mondrian and inspired by mathematics, he explores creativity by restricting themes, graphical elements, and color for a result that is bold, linear, and hard edge. We recently spoke with him via email about his artistic origins, creative process, and future plans.

We are pleased to introduce Chicagoland painter Maryna Danylovych as the next featured artist in our ongoing exhibition series Local Art @ EPL. Throughout December, more than three dozen of her impressionist still lifes and landscapes will be on display on the 2nd floor of EPL’s Main Library. Inspired by her favorite painters Monet, Renoir, and O’Keefe, Danylovych strives to ensure that the emotions she puts into her pictures reach the people who view them. Alain Potrel is a Chicagoland painter, NU Research Associate, and the latest featured artist in our ongoing exhibition series Local Art @ EPL. His show – titled Ambidextrous – is currently on display on the 2nd floor of EPL’s Main Library where you can catch it through October 31. Specializing in Jackson Pollock-esque oils, Mr. Potrel has shown throughout the U.S., Canada, and France though he admits, “I never really studied art. I just paint my life, and life is an art.” We recently spoke with him via email about his artistic origins, creative process, and future plans.
