Her exhibit Inside the Frances Willard House is currently on display on the 2nd floor of EPL’s Main Library where you can catch it through July 30th. Featuring sixteen gorgeous interior shots of Willard’s home at 1730 Chicago Avenue, the exhibit celebrates one of Evanston’s greatest historical treasures and serves as a visual appetizer for the grand reopening of the Francis Willard House Museum in September 2016. Local Art @ EPL: Barbara Freeman

all dressed in white We are very pleased to welcome Barbara Freeman back to the library for a brand-new Local Art @ EPL exhibit. After debuting with 2010’s Road Light and following up with 2012’s smalltown: faith, flags, & firearms, the Evanston photographer and filmmaker has returned with All Dressed in White – a series of “color photographs that explore the gap between wedding day myths and traditions and the much-more-interesting reality… of two people trying to create a union.” You can catch this inspired show on the 2nd floor of EPL’s Main Library through the end of June, and don’t forget to stop by this Saturday, June 4 when it’s included as part of the 2016 Evanston Made gallery tour. An Interview with Oliver Baldwin Edwards

Sixteen-year-old Oliver Baldwin Edwards is a talented local photographer and the latest Evanston artist to be featured in our ongoing exhibition series Local Art @ EPL. His show Traveling Light: Morocco is on display on the 2nd floor of EPL’s Main Library where you can catch it through the end of February. In August 2015 Edwards made his sixth visit to Morocco traveling from the Atlantic coast through the Middle and High Atlas Mountains and into the Sahara. Whether beneath the harsh North African sun or the clear night of the desert, his striking portraits and landscapes are alive with a maturing curiosity, respect for the Moroccan people, and a fascination with the experience of travel. You can meet Edwards and learn more about his photography at a reception this Thursday, February 18th at 4:30 pm. In anticipation, we recently spoke with him via email about how Door County inspired his love of photography, his creative process, and the warmth of the Moroccan people.

We are excited to introduce Julie Cowan – an Evanston graphic designer and the founder of artruck and archKIDecture – as the next featured artist in our ongoing exhibition series Local Art @ EPL. Her show is currently on display on the 2nd floor of EPL’s Main Library where you can catch it through the end of January. Influenced by her work with master printer Tomas Svoboda in Prague, Cowan’s exhibit features a striking series of electronically-manipulated photographic images layered with multiple stages of printmaking and coloring. Focusing on her interests in architecture and portraiture, her work explores “how space affects us, invades us and defines us.” You can see more of Cowan’s art by visiting her website, and make sure to stop back later in the month for a featured interview with the artist herself. David Pritchett is a photographer, educator, and the latest Evanston artist to be featured in our ongoing exhibition series Local Art @ EPL. His fascinating show Daily China was on display at EPL’s Main Library throughout November and explored China’s careening city buses, rural Buddhist temples, and street-side restaurants in an effort to “reflect a shared humanity amid the unique present of an ancient culture.” We recently spoke with Mr. Pritchett via email about how the Peace Corps inspired his art, his creative process, and his conviction that “there is more in cultural diversity that unites us than separates us.”

His show – titled Daily China – is currently on display on the 2nd floor of EPL’s Main Library where you can catch it through November 30th. lloyd 1 We are pleased to introduce retired NU Life Sciences Librarian and photographer Lloyd Davidson as the next featured artist in our ongoing exhibition series Local Art @ EPL. His show is currently on display on the 2nd floor of EPL’s Main Library where you can catch it through September 30th. Informed by his M.A. in paleontology and Ph.D. in cell biology, Davidson’s breathtaking landscape, plant, and macro photographs reflect his engaged respect for the wilds of Alaska, Africa, Australia, and the American Southwest. You can meet Dr. Davidson at an opening reception this Tuesday, September 8th at 7 pm and also on Wednesday, September 23 at 7 pm when he will share photos and discuss the art of nature photography in our Community Meeting Room. We are thrilled to introduce local photographer Dale Wickum as the next featured artist in our ongoing exhibition series Local Art @ EPL. His show – Following the Tracks – is currently on display on the 2nd floor of EPL’s Main Library where you can catch it through June 30th. Documenting a trio of railroad journeys in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Wickum’s exhibit explores the vanishing subculture of the “railroad tramp.” Featuring three dozen arresting black-and-white photographs, his show captures the essence of this “reclusive and wary, overlooked and forgotten” subculture while affording “them the dignity of being remembered for who they were, the last of a breed.” For more photos and to learn about Wickum’s oral history project, visit the Following the Tracks website, and don’t miss this interview with the artist himself.
