Overview

Evanston Public Library was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to provide our community with free copies of Ross Gay’s book of poetry Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude, to be given away at a variety of events through June 2025.

In partnership with Hive Center For The Book Arts, we will host events around the themes of this book of poetry, with a focus on joy and gratitude for where we live.

About the Book

Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude is a poetic exploration of life’s contrasts, where sorrow and joy coexist. The collection delves into themes of loss, love, and the beauty found in simple, everyday experiences, all while maintaining a tone of deep appreciation and wonder.

Through vivid imagery and a celebratory spirit, Gay encourages readers to embrace gratitude as a powerful response to life’s inevitable challenges.

About the Author

Ross Gay is an American poet, essayist, and professor known for his vibrant and joyful explorations of life, love, and loss. Born in 1974, Gay has authored several acclaimed poetry collections, including Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude, which won the 2015 National Book Critics Circle Award.

In addition to his writing, he teaches at Indiana University and is a founding board member of the Bloomington Community Orchard, reflecting his deep commitment to community and nature.
