Women’s History Month: Anytime Activities for Kids

Stop by Evanston Public Library* during our operating hours to enjoy the following Women's History Month "anytime" offerings for kids:

Coloring Sheets @ Main Library: Take a thematic coloring page or two for later or color in the Art Garden with available crayons and colored pencils! Coloring is a great fine motor and pre-writing skill to work on! Coloring sheets are located at the Children's Service Desk.

Coloring Sheets @ Robert Crown Branch Library: Take a themed coloring page or two for later or color with available crayons, markers and colored pencils! Coloring is a great fine motor and pre-writing skill to work on! Coloring sheets are located near the playhouse.

Guessing Jar @ Main Library: Flex those counting and estimation muscles in this Women's History Month themed guessing challenge! Turn the jar, pick it up even, but make sure the lid remains on! Practice writing your numbers and name when you submit a guess and if you’re close– you may win a prize! What did Ms. Liz put in the jar this month? Here's a hint: The Pack Horse Library Project was founded in the 1930's in order to bring books to remote regions where there were few schools and no libraries. It was mostly made up of women who were called Book Women. These fearless librarians overcame huge obstacles to deliver books on mules or horseback.

Scavenger Hunt @ Main Library: This month’s scavenger hunt honors Women's History Month! Look high and low, in corners, by windows and around pillars– anywhere is fair game as long as it’s in the Children’s Room! Desk staff are happy to offer hints, but older kids are encouraged to see how many they can find on their own first! When we think of libraries today, we think of places that incubate community and provide a public space to learn and grow. That wasn’t always the case, and even public libraries were not welcoming places to everyone. Thankfully, that has continued to change for the better due to the creativity and hard work of socially-minded librarians all over the country, many of whom are women. These great women have vastly impacted the role of libraries, how they fit into society, and how they work. Find pictures of the featured women (with or without hints), submit your paper and you may win a prize!
