This summer, we will expand opportunities at the Library that empower our community members to explore who we are and all that we can be. It’s about more than reading. When we see ourselves in books, working together, and in the community, we see the possibilities of a big, wide world. When our books, digital materials, events and activities reflect the diversity of the Evanston community, and the world at large – racial, ethnic, gender, LGBTQ, socioeconomic, religion, ability — everyone sees their potential.
Summer Reading for Children: Read, Renew, Repeat encourages and supports a love of reading, as well as a love of the environment. When we include titles about and by people of different backgrounds, children see themselves and/or their emotional experiences represented in our the books. A diverse collection helps children see how they are part of the story.
Summer Events and Activities for All Ages: Find cultural experiences and opportunities for engagement that support our diverse community for children, teens, adults and families. Support our Summer Campaign Today
Give a gift to our summer campaign to raise $150,000 by September 30 and acquire diverse materials, including books, digital resources, films, and other media, and bring more cultural experiences and activities that reflect the experiences of the community. Your general operating gift this summer will sustain and grow a collection and place where our diversity is celebrated.
This year, in alignment with our new Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Plan, adopted by the Board of Trustees in May 2024, we have a special focus on bringing more Black and Latinx authors and stories into our collection. This plan requires action from our community to support this collection building. Join us with a gift today!
