Stop by EPL's Main Library during our operating hours to enjoy the following Hispanic Heritage Month "anytime" offerings for kids:
Short & Sweet Take Home Craft: Pick up a mini-piñata craft from the Children's Service Desk, which supplies last. What treats will you put inside, once it's decorated?
Guessing Jar: Flex those counting and estimation muscles in this Hispanic Heritage Month themed guessing challenge! Turn the jar, pick it up even, but make sure the lid remains on! Practice writing your numbers and name when you submit a guess and if you’re close– you may win a prize! What did Ms. Liz put in the jar this month? And what books is she featuring?
Scavenger Hunt: Search for lotería cards in this month’s scavenger hunt! Find them all, submit your paper and you may win a prize! Look high and low, in corners, by windows and around pillars– anywhere is fair game as long as it’s in the Children’s Room. Desk staff are happy to offer hints, but older kids are encouraged to see how many they can find on their own first. The traditional lotería has its roots in 15th century Italy, where it traveled to Spain. The Spanish brought the game to Mexico in the 18th century, around 1769. La Lotería Mexicana grew in popularity in the 19th and 20th centuries thanks to traveling fairs, known as ferias.
